Cherie Campbell inducted into Volleyball PEI Hall of Fame!

To be a great indoor volleyball player takes time, dedication, and countless reps. To be a great beach volleyball player takes all of that — and more. Cherie Campbell exemplifies what it means to be exceptional in both.

A graduate of Kensington Intermediate Senior High School (KISH), Cherie was a multi-sport athlete, competing in volleyball, basketball, and rugby. She was the driving force behind the KISH volleyball team that captured numerous tournament championships and provincial titles. In 1993, the team achieved the ultimate victory — winning the prestigious Dalhousie Tournament, where Cherie was named Most Valuable Player.

With multiple All-Star and MVP awards to her name, and as a member of the 1993 PEI Indoor Volleyball Canada Games Team, Cherie faced the decision of where to continue her education and athletic career. She chose Dalhousie University, where she made an immediate impact — being named both the AUAA Rookie of the Year and Dalhousie’s Overall Rookie of the Year for the 1994–95 season.

During PEI summers, Cherie teamed up with former KISH teammate Nadine Sinclair, forming one of the region’s most dominant beach volleyball pairs. The duo captured numerous titles at events such as Parlee Beach, Cavendish Beach, Harvest Festival, and the Purple Parrot, and went on to compete at Nationals.

A decade later, in 2004, Cherie began the season as an assistant coach with UPEI Panthers while working full-time with the Charlottetown Police Department. Mid-season, she enrolled in classes, joined the roster, and helped the team reach its only AUS semi-final appearance. Losing in a two-hour twenty-four-minute match that finished just after midnight due to White Juan.   Her one-semester contribution was so impactful that she was named a 2nd Team AUS League All-Star.

Cherie continued to compete in senior women’s volleyball in PEI, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick, winning numerous titles. In 2009, she represented Team New Brunswick in beach volleyball at the Jeux de la Francophonie Games in Beirut, Lebanon. That same year, she was recognized as both Volleyball New Brunswick’s Athlete of the Year and Coach of the Year.

Beyond playing and coaching, Cherie has remained deeply involved in volleyball — officiating at all levels and managing major events. She has coached through two Canada Games cycles, served as Competition Manager for the 2022 Canada Games in Niagara, and managed over 10 major international beach volleyball events, including FIVB, Pan Am Games, NORCECA, and European Tour competitions.
